You know how the old story goes…boy meets girl, girl takes boy home, introduces him to her book collection…
Well this is my story, or rather that of long suffering Mr B who is on nodding acquaintence with our postman, and the many MANY MANY books which line our home.
We met 18 years ago, our first date was the first Harry Potter movie, the second was the first Lord Of The Rings, and I was open about my bookish love right from the start-he was a fellow nerd and our families breathed a sigh of relief that they would no longer be ‘burdened with geek talk’.
Fast forward to today and both our families are persona non grata in our lives and we could not be happier! HAH! Take that !
Except.. in the nicest way possible after receiving the latest bunch of proofs, he turned to me and said ‘We don’t live in an actual TARDIS…we may need to think about a book cull’.

To be fair he was aware I had about 1000 books when we met and I did give a lot away when we had the children-we ran out of house for both books and the stuff that accompanies children. He reads too, just not as quickly, and he listens to audio books but together we enjoy George RR Martin, Jim Butcher, J.R.R Tolkien and Neil Gaiman which is just wonderful!
Even so, when we moved house with book crates stacked almost to the bedroom window and the removal man saying ‘Do you really need all those books?’ , Mr B said with no small amount of pride ,’AND she has read most of them!’
To be fair he was hopsitalised with sepsis 2 days later and may have been delirious at the time, but that moment was MINE I tells ya, MINE!
He has encouraged me to enjoy and embrace reading, does not get offended when I answer ‘Uh huh, yep, ok then’ when I’m knee deep in a book, tells me that I need to calm down on the old books and then buys books for my birthday, Valentine’s Day and when I feel sad. Which is quite a lot atm, so I am very glad of his unending support, his ability to find shelf space and wall space for more shelves and his indulgence whenever a new book comes through the door.
He knows book bloggers’ names, publicists’ names, my blogging schedule-it doesn’t exist, I fly by the seat of my pants tbh. He even built my book blog and put up with me going ‘Left a bit…right a bit…NOT LIKE THAT!’ for probably what felt like forever.
He also put up with me running into the office on 5868 occasions, shoving my laptop in his face and going ‘WHY IS IT DOING THAT?! HELP!’. He calmly shows me what to do and sends me on my way …until the next time I blow something up.
I am so lucky to be married to a webmaster/artist/musician who doesn’t mind having a technophobe wife who mixes up Star Trek and Star Wars, (only the once but still, he has not forgotten)and who has put up with me having the hugest slump after a dyslexia/dyspraxia diagnosis this last year on top of doing so much of the housework/childcare due to this course that I may not even finish because it’s so hard, and gruelling and breakdown inducing-I do not use that term lightly-he really is THE BEST!
We agreed not to do Valentine’s Day this year for a variety of reasons, but I can completely say that this is my way of sharing my love for Mr B and his tolerance for the stacks of books in every room and up the stairs and in the hallway and….you get the drift ! He’s pretty amazing!
So I look forward to finishing our Norse tattoos-we each have one of Odin’s ravens on our wrists and want runic names under them-and watching the last season of Game Of Thrones-sob!- and season 2 of American Gods together in our book fort house.

I LOVE this! It’s also highly reminescent of my own hubby who also proudly declares that I have read almost all of my book collection and who also made my site and who also has to put out small techy fires left, right and centre 😂 I hope you don’t feel sad for long and if you need anything a Belgian girl can help you with at long distance, just holla 😊
You have a techy hubby too? They are pretty damn awesome aren’t they?! Currently need to write an 8,000 word dissertation and I have one word so far…’Introduction’ ! Thank you so much that is so lush x

Oh I love this!!! I wish I had a married a man like this! Although since he’s been on tour he has flown through a few books! Thanks for sharing x
Ah the book love is spreading!Mine too, he has a shelf he is super proud of without about 20 books on it and goes through one or two a year bless him! But he spends so much time coding that he lives for audio books to keep him conscious- I had NO idea how hard webwork was until he showed me x
What a wonderful testament to a relationship. I have those left a bit/can you make it bigger/I do like the colour conversations with my other half too ….
Ahahahah! I love the fact he’s so passionate about me and the girls’ reading all the time, I honestly think he’s a star 🙂
That’s so lovely ❤️😍. Don’t worry about piles of books – that pic looks like my old house before I boxed most of my books into storage (and now I want to take them out and have my books back in piles in my new home)😆😁
It’s amazing how quickly they build up, isn’t it? And I definintely think that books make a house a home !!
They do😊😊😊😊
This is so lovely! You sound so perfect for each other! It’s great to hear about married bibliophiles, I’m hoping to one day meet a man who also loves reading, but I’d settle for someone willing to tolerate my passion for books!
