This is sadly the last weekend in August, I haven’t read all the books I wanted to by Eye Books so this month long, independent publisher celebration is going to continue after this week for sure!
So it’s a Bank Holiday Weekend , hurray!
Does anyone have any time off, for relaxing, DIY or visiting family?
Our car is off the road so it will only be walking distance trips until it can be fixed so picnics (if the weather is nice!)or indoor picnics if it isn’t,are on the cards along with board games, with popcorn, movies and books.
Here is what I will be looking forward to reading this weekend-

A stark look at sex, relationships and addiction
Each is searching for answers to life’s biggest questions – why are we here? what is love? what constitutes betrayal? – and thrust together, over an intense two-week period, they begin to form answers. In doing so, they must first confront their darkest demons, both within and without…
Provocative, honest, brimming with sexual tension and crackling with intelligence, Emily Maguire’s sensational novel cements her place as one of Australia’s hottest talents
‘The Gospel According To Luke’ is also published by Lightning Books in ebook format.

Caught in the crossfire is 16-year-old Honey – pregnant, battered and ready to cling to whatever hope is offered. As Aggie and Luke fight over the fate of Honey’s unborn child, they discover a deep and surprising connection. But as the war between the secular and religious intensifies, Aggie, Luke and Honey find themselves in moral and physical danger.
Against a backdrop of religious terrorism and social decay, The Gospel According to Luke is a contemporary love story about belief, family, grief and hope.
‘An Isolated Incident’ is the final in the triptych of novels by Emily Maguire which I immensely keen to read.
When 25-year-old Bella Michaels is brutally murdered in the small town of Strathdee, the community is stunned and a media storm ensues.
Unwillingly thrust into the eye of that storm are Bella’s beloved older sister, Chris, a barmaid at the local pub, whose apparently easy-going nature conceals hard-won wisdom and the kind of street-smarts that only experience can bring, and May Norman, a young reporter with high ideals sent to cover the story.
An Isolated Incident is a humane and beautifully observed tale of everyday violence, the media’s obsession with the murders of pretty young women and the absence left in the world when someone dies
