About the book….
Life is hard for The Devil and he desperately wants to take a holiday. Growing weary from playing the cosmic bad guy, he resolves to set up a company that will do his job for him so the sins of the world will tick over while he takes a vacation. God tells him he can have his vacation just as soon as he solves an ancient crime.
But nothing is ever easy and before long he is up to his pitchfork in solving murders, desperate to crack the case so he can finally take the holiday he so badly needs…
This is a perfectly-pitched darkly comic crime novel that is ideal for fans of Christopher Fowler and Ben Aaranovitch.
HUGE thanks to Love Books Group for having me along on the ‘Hellcorp’ blog tour-this is one of those books that makes you unexpectedly laugh out loud in public places when reading it and also makes you think about the meaning of life-without being too deep or navel gazing about it.
It begins with the Devil revealing himself to the Pope and then tricking him into paying for the construction of ‘Hellcorp’-the Devil’s new outsource of Hell which is to be built in Edinburgh.
He has had enough of the admin, the paperwork and sheer crushing banality of being in charge of the Underworld-he rationalises that if he gets his operation commodified, as a legitimate businnes, then he can take a break.
Cue a phonecall conference with the Man Upstairs who agrees-on one condition. The Devil needs to solve a murder which began 40 years ago and culminated in a death that day in Glasgow.
With everything to gain and nothing to lose-so he thinks-the Devil agrees…and this is where the fun really begins!
The nature of good versus evil and the power we have as humans to choose which path to take is brilliantly explored throught the twin concepts of Heaven and Hell whilst being darkly comic and extremely well plotted.
I really enjoyed ‘Hellcorp’ and am very much looking forward to Book 2 !!
