She is the perfect friend to Tess and Jamie, but when Jamie’s behaviour starts to change, and Tess starts to forget things, she begins to suspect that Shelley might not be the answer to their problems after all. When questions arise over her husband’s death and strange things start to happen, Tess begins to suspect that Shelley may have an ulterior motive. Tess knows she must do everything she can to keep Jamie safe – but who can she trust?

What readers have been saying about ‘The Perfect Betrayal’-

‘This book floored me!’
‘I’m still holding my breath.’
‘The ending just hit me right between the eyes.’
‘This wasn’t just good, it was amazing . . . jaw dropping.’
‘I was still reading it at 2.30 am!’
‘Wow – that’s the first word that comes to mind.’
‘This is my number 1 book read this year.’
‘Buy this for yourself, you won’t be able to put it down!’

Well, that’s me done, no need to say what I think, they all did it for me!
But seriously though, this book!

Oh my days, I am so grateful to be able to read books that normally pass me by-we live in a town with no bookshop, the nearest is 20 miles away, so a train or bus journey is not always in the budget. The internet is literally my main source of book recommendations, and book bloggers win hands down in their ‘buy this book!’ stakes. All of this is to say-I pick what I read very carefully and book bloggers are my primary source of giving me what I would call my ‘spidey book sense’ tingle when I choose a book…and this one is all killer no filler,100% blogger recommended, hands down!

It is so hard to believe that this is a debut-it is a masterful portrayal of grief ,a spine tingling mystery and exploration of a mother’s love. There were teas, many tears whilst reading it. Lauren North constructs a tightly woven narrative which swaps between Tessie and Jamie, her son, leading up to his 8th birthday and statements given to the police after Jamie’s birthday. Both strands of the plot collide in a heartfelt denouement which left me shaken. It’s a complete immersion into a grief stricken wife and mother who is vulnerable and raw.

As Shelley becomes more involved in their lives, things seem to not add up-strange phone calls and car chases, pieces of paper being moved around and a feeling of being watched …who or what is waiting for Tess and what are they after?

Hugest thanks to Anne and Lauren courtesy of Transworld for letting me read this gifted copy of ‘The Perfect Betrayal’.
