About the book…
An unputdownable thriller, perfect for fans of THE HOLIDAY and BIG LITTLE LIES.
‘A sparkling, thrilling whodunit with a cast of extraordinarily well-realised characters and a setting that will take your breath away. I read it in twenty-four hours and was bereft when it ended’ LISA JEWELL
Till death do us part . . .
Lucy has dreamt of her wedding day for as long as she can remember.
And now the day is almost here. Her nearest and dearest are gathered on an idyllic Greek island and she just knows it’s going to be perfect. It has to be.
But even the best-laid plans can go horribly wrong. Why are her parents behaving so strangely? Why won’t the rather odd lady from the airport stop hanging around? Who is the silent stranger her sister brought as a plus-1?
And then they find the body.
This is a must read thriller which belongs in your suitcase alongside your sun tan lotion, killer slingback heels and poolside sarong.
The beach side read is a must for anyone going anywhere, and trust me, they don’t come much better than this.
Lucy wanted her wedding day to be one that none of her, or her fiance’s family will ever forget and her wish comes true in the most dramatic way!
Author Tammy Cohen places her on-the-surface loving, close family at the dream wedding destination , on a Greek Island which Lucy and Jason will have exclusive privacy on, part funded by her, part funded by her parents. She sets them all up, introduces them to the reader…then takes a scalpel to their hopes and dreams.
But….sister Jess is always throwing a spanner in Lucy’s Instagrammable life, and this time, she throws a qwhopper into the mix, and fair blows it up. This time, the consequences of her actions are fatal.
Bringing along a relative stranger would be bad enough-Gabriel something…she never really hung around long enough to pick up many more details than this- but she also adds hanger on Vivian, an older woman with an eclectic boho taste in clothing and a loud , rasping smoker’s cough which has a tendency to take her less than discreet tales and carry them on the wind.
Let’s not even get into the bridesmaid’s dress farrago…
So! You have Lucy and Jason (almost weds), Lucy and Jess’ parents Hazel and Dom (secrets they are keeping from each other which are begging to surface) ,old boyfriend Gil and his insufferable wife Zoe, enigmatic Gabriel, Vivian and wedding planner Nina. Oh, and cling on best friend Shelley.
Should be the wedding of your dreams, all your nearest and dearest flown out at no expense, but someone hasn’t been checking their back balance nearly often enough.
And , from the interspersed transcripts of police reports, someone, has died.
It is a testament to Tammy’s powers of writing that you just don’t know who has been killed till a fair way into the book, and , in the absence of a named detective, you, the reader, steps into the role.
At the same time, it is impossible not to feel desperately sorry for these people who are under the impression that they simply have to have a wedding which is damn near perfect. The irony is, however, that what they are creating is a false image for other people to then venerate and break themselves in half to try and emulate. They are becoming part of an increasingly hostile social media world where cancellation is imminent and your ‘influence’ is neglible.
The way that each character goes to such lengths to protect the ones that they love is the only redeeming feature which keeps them from becoming monstrous caricatures, and I absolutely, 100% recommend this as a must read killer thriller par excellence, it just cements Tammy’s reputation as the go to writer for outstanding psychological stories of the highest order.
It’s going to be a day to remember.
