Many thanks to Anne Cater of Random Things Tours for having me on the blog tour for The 13th Witch by Mark Hayden
About The Book
Did you know that the gods can use mobile phones?
They can, and Odin has a message for Conrad…
Conrad Clarke, former RAF pilot and alleged gangster gets a text – and a visit – from The Allfather.Odin has a challenge for Conrad: sign up to protect England from wild magick and get a commission in the King’s Watch. All he has to do is find a missing witch. Simple.
Conrad never could resist a challenge.
Before you can say “Ragnarok”, he’s plunged into a world of gods, mages, witches, dwarves and one very aggressive giant mole. But the witch doesn’t want to be found, and powerful mages will kill to keep her hidden. Going back isn’t an option. Going forward looks a lot like death.Armed with nothing but a sense of humour and a willingness to cheat, Conrad has to find the Witch and save his life.Treat yourself to a copy now and experience a whole new universe of magick. And moles…
Not just an old common or garden moles but GIANT moles who happen to be carniverous…yikes!
And who Conrad inadvertently teaches to use mobile phones!
Heading home for Christmas after narrowly avoiding being caught by police with a Kalashnikov -thanks to the intervention of a shadow Conrad refers to as The Phantom-Conrad is anticipatipating a break from the daily grind with nothing more strenuous than not being annoyed by his parents obvious favouritism towards his younger sister.
Until, that is, the arrival of a text from Odin, requesting his prescence on a quest, a quest which if he manges to survive, upon finding the dwarves-3 legged ones! -he will then embark on a quest to join the King’s Watch. But that quest just might kill him….
For it turns out that the head injury he sustained the previous year left him not with auditory hallucinations,The Phantom isn’t merely a shadowy appartion, but the ability to see Odin, The All Father.Gods are real, so is magick-but do not mention muggles-and there is a sweet riff on a ‘Lord of The Rings’ motif to boot.
So basically he has multiple chances of dying,on a magickal quest to find the 13th witch who has recently gone missing from her coven .It’s different and unusual and very, very moreish.
Grandly designed and fiercely funny, this DEFINITELY has me wanting to read more from Mark Hayden!
Especially considering that the sequel, ‘The 12 Dragons Of Albion’ is set in my local area of South Wales this could be a cause of concern…
I absolutely adored ‘The 13th Witch’ and the personalised note which came with my proof was such a lovely touch, thank you Mark!
