About the book…
The diary of a nagging wife is a hilarious journey of the up’s and downs of the life of Annie a 39-year-old mother to a chatty toddler and a newborn, going from a high roller financial manager to being boggled down with two children is no easy picnic, throw in an overbearing obnoxious husband to the mix equals a disaster.
Written in the form of a diary, join Annie as she begins to wonder whether there is more to life than swollen breasts and picking up her husbands dirty laundry from of the floor.
Can Annie truly figure out what she wants from her life?
Huge thanks to Nadine at Green Tree Publishing for inviting me to read the debut novel by Donna Mensah, ‘The Diary Of A Nagging Wife’ available from July 18th!
I have been provided with an e-arc and what follows is my honest opinion on the story of Anne, Matthew and their children Isabelle and Jacob (5 years and 2 months old, respectively)
Anne has given up on giving up, she is exhausted from the challenge of raising two children whilst she handled being a corporate business woman with aplomb. She faces many barriers which most of us can relate to, the embarrassing explosion of breast milk at inappropriate moments, not being taken seriously by the other adults in your life, and having birds nest hair.
Everyone else seems to have it together, so why doesn’t she?
Her friend, Megan, is the only one she can turn to, she has to keep her mum on side in order to use her to keep the kids whilst she goes to yoga/meets Megan. This means putting up with lots of ‘in my day…’ type conversations whilst gritting her teeth.
There are funny moments which most of us can relate to-the sinking realisation that you can never go to the toilet on your own, sleeping separately, hot food is a thing of the past and your favourite jeans no longer fit.
Investing in yourself seems like a futile goal because you are giving it all to two demanding terrorists who want your actual blood , sweat and tears but you do it because you love them. And, having been married for 20 years, the fizz has surely got to go out of anyone’s relationship?
But the question is, do Anne and Matt work to recapture it, or is his expectation of her to have his dinner on the table every night (I would have not lasted one year with someone who did not think raising kids is work!),about to be the last straw ?
This is a quick read which is a nice reprieve from heavier works, it is something that can be read in an evening (and then be grateful you are married to someone who recognises your worth!)
