It’s the weekend again!
Well done us for getting through another week-what’s there to look forward to now? Hopefully it’s a space to regroup, refresh and maybe relax a little with a good book…
For me, I am working 2 long day shifts (12.5 hrs each…yikes!) but I will be squeaking in as much reading time as possible on my breaks, and getting up extra early to make progress in the wonderful reads I am highlighting below as a #Domevember #WeekendShelfie.
First up is ‘None So Blind’ by Alis Hawkins

Introducing the 19th century Teifi Valley Coroner, Harry Probert-Lloyd in his first case, the discovery of a woman’s bones beneath the roots of a tree.Leaving London due to his increasingly reduced vision impacting his barrister’s career, Harry is determined to expose the truth, working alongside his clerk,John Davies. The historical detail and forensic detective work drew me to this title and I think it is perfect, autumnal reading.
“Beautifully written, cunningly plotted, with one of the most interesting central characters.”
E.S. Thomson, author of ‘Dark Asylum’

Secondly , I have ‘Death On The Rive Nord’ by Adrian Magson.
The second case for Inspector Lucas Rocco, this takes him to a very topical investigation involving human trafficking and illegal workers.
Although this is set in 1963, this remains a sadly relevant and modern issue wherein immigrants are being exploited whilst simultaneously scape goated and reviled.
When an Algerian immigrant is found stabbed to death in a pipeline, after being smuggled into France in the back of a truck, Rocco has to balance his quest to bring justice to the murdered man with potential political and civil unease.
“A gripping police procedural.” Eurocrime
