This has been a great month-thanks to the generous support of Eye Books, I have been able to share upcoming book releases, chat to authors and read the most amazing books!
Thanks you to them all, they have been amazing!
Thank you to every person who has read the reviews, commented, retweeted, thought of buying, or bought any books during August!
*There is still a 30% discount using code RACHELREADIT until the end of the day!*
As a reader, you can support independent publishers by –
- signing up to the newsletter
- leaving reviews
- supporting the auhtors/publishers on their social media platforms
- making the most of their ‘Book Of The Month’ promotions
Apart from my gifted copy of ‘The Mating Habits Of Stags’ by Ray Robinson, I read all of the books I reviewed in August on Kindle Unlimited. It is another way of supporting writers as the percentage of pages read pays the publisher per loan.
You pay a set fee each month and can borrow up to 10 books at a time-obviously the best way to support an independent publisher is to buy from them direct, but whatever way you can do it is so helpful,as long as you are not downloading them illegally .
So, the last things I am looking at reading on the last day of August include-
‘The Mind Thief’ by Maria Katsonis
‘An intelligent and loving memoir of depression’ – The Age
Maria Katsonis enjoyed a traditional Greek childhood as the daughter of European immigrants to Australia, living on top of a milk bar and sharing a bedroom with her grandmother. She was a good Greek girl throughout high school until university, when she discovered her rebellious side and abandoned nine-tenths of an economics degree for a career in the theatre.
Furthering her studies later in life, she attended Harvard and left with a Masters in Public Administration. Little did she know that, in five years’ time, she would be alone on a bed in a psychiatric ward fighting for her life.
This is the powerful and moving true-life story of a high-flier who fought a terrifying battle against depression and psychosis. The Mind Thief will make you laugh, cry, gasp and smile. Written with elegance and honesty, it is a harrowing but ultimately uplifting account.
‘The Shifting Pools’ by Zoe Duncan
“A beautiful, moving story” – Emma Jane Kirby
Fleeing war and the death of her family, Eve has carefully constructed a new life for herself in London.
Yet she is troubled by vivid, disturbing dreams, symptoms of her traumatic past, which intrude increasingly on her daily life. As she is drawn further into her dream world, she finds herself caught up in a fresh battle for survival.
A dark, lyrical fantasy about healing and reconnecting with the full richness of the self.
Don’t they look great? There are so many more Eye/Lightning books that I didn’t get around to reading and reviewing which I can absolutely guarentee getting around to as soon as I can.
In the meantime, stay with me for September’s #IndieBooksLoveFest publisher reveal and discussion incoming at some point tomorrow!
It’s not going to be as linear as August, it’ll be a bit more challenging but just as much fun(I hope!).
