Instead of a monthly book wrap-up, I am looking at things I learnt whilst reading this month.
Each book noted has a corresponding review, either on here or on my Goodreads page-if they are here they are recommended reading so hopefully this will a)save you trawling through my posts if you are short on time and b)find yourself some new books-hurray!
- Deathbed confessions are exempt from the ‘hearsay’ law based on the provisor that a dying person has nothing to gain from lying-‘The Girl In The Woods’ by Patricia MacDonald
- Dyson vacuums do not like sucking up everything I discovered thanks to ‘Tightrope’ by Marnie Riches
- A 12 carriage train has 96 wheels according to ‘Train Man’ by Andrew Mulligan
- The Ague was a malarial sickness which swept the English Fens until the marshlands were drained-the most popular method used to cure this sickness was drinking tea brewed from the heads of white poppies as written about in ‘Beneath The Surface’ by Fiona Neill
- In Scotland you can be held for 140 days before a trial according to Ruth Ware in ‘The Turn Of The Key’
- Thought I was past being scared to death by enclosed spaces, but a caving scene in ‘Life Ruins’ by Danuta Kot left me gasping for breath.Seriously, she is so good !
- ‘Stop At Nothing’ by Tammy Cohen reinforces my long held belief that school group chats are cesspools of judgemental attitudes and bad for your mental health
- Never go on holiday with your friends-not everyone will be occupying a seat on the return flight, especially in ‘The Holiday’ by TM Logan
- The Henari are my new favourite ‘love to hate them‘ beasts courtesy of ‘The Rage Of Dragons’ by Evan Winters
- Death Cap Mushrooms are identifiable by a greenish hue and white gills in ‘The Poison Garden’ by Alex Marwood
- Draconeans can rustle their wings like they are silentley laughing in ‘Turning Darkness Into Light’ by Marie Brennan
- I have a new found respect for the physicality of puppeteers thanks to Ronnie Le Drew’s ‘Zippy And Me’
- ‘Wanderers’ by Chuck Wendig confirms that there is always room on my shelf for another dysopian epic!
- If a house sitting gig appears too good to be true and the super of the building practically licks their lips when you tell them you are an orphan, no matter how grand the New York building is, you better run fast in the opposite direction or risk your life in ‘Lock Every Door’ by Riley Sager
- The book which made me cry the most this month was hands down winner, ‘Expectation’ by Anna Hope
Let me know which books tickled your pickle this month down below, get in touch, share your reads and don’t be shy!
*As an aside, the programme which made me cry absolute buckets this month is ‘Bosch’, available on prime in the UK and US, based on the books by Michael Connelly
