‘Revenge Runs Deep’ by Pat Young is published by Learig Press this May, and I am thrilled to welcome you to my blogtour stop ,courtesy of Books On The Bright Side Publicity!
About the book…
Your boss is a bully. How far would you go to get revenge?
Thomas Smeaton is a powerful man who makes life a living hell for his employees.
When his bullying drives a woman to suicide, three of her colleagues decide it is time to take action before Smeaton destroys any more good people.
Six months later, a car is found submerged in a reservoir, with a single body inside. Suicide? Or murder?
Two people were there the night that car rolled into the depths of Loch Etrin. And one is still missing.
Intrigued? I know I am !
This is a great read, it made you ask questions of yourself like the best moral dilemma stories do-if you were in that situation, what would you do?
It’s a cumulative effect of bully-ing induced suicide which leads to three other bictims of the odious Mr Smeaton to taking real, affirmative action.
As well as the discussion of justice meted out to one of the nastiest people in a position of power that I have ever read-this guy really really makes you want break things, he’s rage inducingly vile. The sad thing is, I think every person reading this book will have, at some time, known a Smeaton.
But if you take that to the ultimate in punishment-killing that person or framing them for murder for example-will that bring about a sense of peace? On the flip side, how long can you turn the other cheek? When your day to day job is a misery, allegations of misconduct are causing others to doubt your professionalism and you have no other recourse due to the position that the bully has…how much of your life will yoiu let them destroy? And what does it say about our society that we feel an unlawful act is necessary to redress the balance, that there is no other way of balancing the scales?
It’s a twisty and engaging read that I thoroughly enoyed, Pat really goes to great lengths to show that bullying can happen anywhere and to anyone. They are not cardboard cutouts of the archetypal victim and villain, these are every day, common or garden people and one in a position of power who uses it bend others to his whim. And they decide, one day, not to take it anymore. I really enjoyed it and am very grateful to Sarah at Books On The Bright Side Publicity and Pat Young for the ecopy of her book for me to review.
I am absolutely looking forward to reading more by Pat!
About the author…
Pat Young is a Number 1 Bestselling author of psychological thrillers.
Pat’s debut novel ‘Till the Dust Settles’ was awarded the prestigious Constable Stag trophy by the Scottish Association of Writers and hit the top spot on Amazon one week after its sequel was released. Pat has also won prizes for her short stories, including the Imprint Writing Award.
Pat was born in Ayrshire, Scotland where she still lives, most of the time. She’s a reader who accidentally became a writer when she found a book with a letter and money hidden inside. That was enough to set her hyperactive imagination on fire and she wrote the story during
Nanowrimo 2010. The idea for ‘Till the Dust Settles‘ came later, in 2013 when Pat watched a documentary about the dust cloud that shrouded Manhattan on 9/11 and thought, ‘What if …?’
In 2017 Pat submitted ‘Till the Dust Settles‘ to Bloodhound Books of Cambridge who immediately offered her a publishing contract. Readers and reviewers in the UK and the USA loved Pat’s debut and asked for a sequel. I know where you live, published in March 2018, moves the action to France and then to Pat’s native Ayrshire. To find out why, you’ll have to read the book.
As a child Pat had to be rescued when she ‘froze’ at the top of a Helter Skelter. In an attempt to overcome this childhood fear she recently discovered a taste for adrenaline and a passion for zip-wiring and abseiling. Her next challenge is to conquer the Orbit Slide at Olympic Park – the world’s ‘longest and tallest tunnel slide’.
She’s building up to that one.
