Sun Trap

About the book…

Sun TrapBE CAREFUL
Ellie has wanted to be an actor since she was a child so, when a role in a blockbuster film presents itself, she grabs it.

WHAT YOU
On the plane to Abu Dhabi to begin filming, Ellie overhears something she shouldn’t – two people discussing plans for murder.

WISH FOR
Unsure if it’s a misunderstanding, and not wanting to ruin her big break, Ellie remains quiet. Then ten members of the cast become nine…

Ellie needs to be careful – it’s more than just her career on the line.

Because she isn’t who she says she is.
And liars are always the prime suspect.

Published by Head Of Zeus on 8th May 2025, my thanks to the publishers and Ransom PR for my gifted review copy of ‘Sun Trap’ by Rachel Wolf

Without a doubt, this was one of my FAVOURITE books of the year, and is a perfect match for reading outside, in the sun , in my humble opinion (if you like that kind of things, personally, I prefer shadows, darkness and rain but that’s me!)

Sun Trap’ takes the old ‘switcheroo’ plotting to whole new levels when a young actress takes her best friend’s place on a film set.

After all, you’d do anything for your friends, wouldn’t you?

Including technically, fraud…impersonating them in what could be their big break, starring with one of your all time favourite actors, in a luxury desert paradise?

Even from the beginning the heebie jeebie feelings take root in your mind as first there is engine trouble on the plane, then Ellie, the first person narrator, overhears what might be a murder plot being discussed between two voices she cannot identify at this point in her journey.

Who is the intended victim and who are the collaborators?

As she begins filming, Ellie finds that pretending to be her new best friend, Phoebe, is a lot harder than she expected it to be. It’s not just the American accent that throws her, it’s a real chore to keep that going instead of her natural English. It’s also the crushing knowledge that if she gets found out, then her acting career is over before it even started.

And why is Phoebe no longer answering her phone calls?

Then someone on the film crew gets murdered, and with an isolated cast of potential killers, was this person the intended target?

Or has something gone horribly, horribly wrong?

The plot is so clever, I was thrown left and right by the twists and turns. It takes a classic whodunnit premise, and mixes it with the fickle world of celebrity, and comes up with a book that gives you an unquenchable thirst for the truth.
