I have been a huge fan of Adrienne Young, since her first fantastical twist on Viking mythology , ‘Sky In The Deep’, so the opportunity to read Greco/Ro,an fantasy, with a slow burn romance at the heart of it, across dual timelines, and dual narratives?

In the city of Isara those within the city are ruled by by the Magistrates , whilst those outside are ruled by legionannire, Lucus Matias.

His troops are barricaded on the river banks opposite Isara, his troops are publicly killing any Magistrates that they can find .

Inside the city, the latest Magistrate to gain their seat, due to their mother’s suicide, is Maris. Maris has spent her time in her mother’s presence to build a reputation for herself, whilst refusing to allow herself to be used by the more powerful Magistrates to tip the scales in the balance of power.
