About the book…

On a private island off the west coast of Scotland, the Agarwals gather for a much-awaited family reunion…

Raj, the patriarch and business tycoon, who has six weeks to decide how to split his petrochemicals empire between his three children.

Shalini, the fragile mother, who longs to see her family healed.

Myra, the eldest daughter and golden child, who, unbeknownst to the family, is on the brink of bankruptcy.

Aseem, the son and supposed heir, who must choose between his wife and his family.

Aisha, the fun-loving youngest daughter, who is tired of being treated like a child.

And Zoe, the outsider whose #Instaperfect life is built on a foundation of lies.

They’ve all got secrets that they would die to protect.
But only one of them is capable of murder.

My thanks to Tracy at Compulsive Readers for the blog tour invite and publishers Century Books for my gifted review copy of ‘The Inheritance’ which is available at all good bookshops!

This is an incredible locked room mystery, set on a remote Scottish island, where futures will be made, or broken, over the course of one weekend. What should have been a much anticipated wedding anniversary celebration , descends into chaos, recriminations and murder.

What could possibly go wrong?

There is Myra, who is coming to terms with her collapsing marriage and potentially collapsing business, Aseem and his influencer wife, Zoe, and possible attendee , youngest and most unreliable daughter, Aisha.

There is the uninvited guest in the shape of Aisha’s latest flame , Gabriel, a high stakes financial wzard without whom Aisha will not set foot on Eilean Kilbryde.

Then there is Aseem, and his wife Zoe, being dragged back into the family business which Aseem has tried so hard to pull away from, and Zoe, with plans of her own for their future.

All of these collide against the backdrop of the island which Myra purchased with a view to creating an exclusive escape, her family being the first ones to see it. Unfortunately it is massively behind in terms of building and hugely over budget.

And on top of all of this , the small matter of a 300 million pound fortune which is anticipated to being shared out between the siblings after the successful sale of the Argawal patriarch’s business empire.

It is the perfect setting for some shocking family revelations which escalate into murder…

But who is the victim?

And who done it?

I was gripped from the very start where you are introduced to an unnamed character, running for their life against the brutal backdrop of a weather lashed island, running away from a dead body.

The scene is immediately set , your senses are on fire wondering just what is going on and the events leading up to the murder are seen through multiple perspectives both inside and immediately outside the Argawal family. There is such a huge amount of tension between what is happening versus what is anticipated to happen, everyone is hiding something and it is such a great storyline to pick away at this highly elevated family, with allusions of grandeur, whilst baser instincts are fighting for control over their lives, and, ultimately freedom from the obligations of child to parent-and vice versa.

An inheritance can be so much more than financial freedom, after all, it can be a bequest of behaviour, psychopathy, or a sense of entitlement to more than you are due.

And with so many agendas in play, who stands to benefit the most?

Drenched in atmosphere, reminding me of ‘And Then There Were None’, this is a terrific novel brimming with characters that straddle race, religion, expectation and greed, all creating the presence of a brand new talent in the field of thriller fiction!
