About the book…
She has just one week to stop a killer.
Emma Makepeace is headed to Edinburgh for the global G7 Summit when her team is tipped off about a high-profile assassination the Russians are planning—but they have no idea who the target is.
Surrounded by the world’s most powerful political leaders in a gridlocked city, Emma must set a trap and use herself as bait.
With time running short, Emma faces the most perilous mission of her career. How far will she go to catch the killer?
My thanks to the wonderful Amanda at Moonflower Books, for the blogtpur invite for the third in the Alias Emma series, ‘The Trap’
It is published in paperback by Penguin imprint , Cornerstone, on August 1st and promises to be timely, unmissable, and if you are, like me, asthmatic, make sure you have your inhaler on hand.
It is breathless action from page one, although I have not read Ava Glass before, and I normally swerve spy fiction like the plague as it just doesn’t hit me in a way which horror and mysteries do, I dove in and was pleasantly surprised to find I quickly grasped the characters and situation.
It is not to say I am too dumb to understand spy thrillers or political intrigue, because it makes me sound like horror is ‘dumbing down’, I just don’t feel equipped to be a fan of the genre in general.
Ava Glass, however, may be the writer who changes my mind…
The third in the Emma Makepeace( love this name!) , the action hits hard and fast as she races to Edinburgh with the G7 summit as the focus of an assassination attempt.
This goes deeper than any known government agency, an unnamed and untraceable unit with powers that James Bond could only dream of. Who is going to be the victim and just as importantly, why are the Russians being tagged as the potential assassins?
Is this an easy way for one government to blame another, at a place where the most powerful men in the world come to broker deals and discuss issues far beyond that of the normal person in the street but here, a woman with an improbable name and secrets of her own finds herself in the middle of a world ending situation.
I really enjoyed the friction and banter between Emma and her reluctant partner, each feels they work better alone and it provides a bit of relief from the relentless drive of the plot.
Very believable with an engaging protagonist which makes me want to revisit her earlier adventures, I am so excited to discover Ava Glass!
