About the book…

Weave magic into your knits with the first-ever Disney Tim Burton’s ‘Nightmare Before Christmas Knitting Guide’, featuring more than 25 patterns inspired by the strange and creepy characters of Tim Burton’s beloved classic.

Become your own mad scientist and knit to life the quirky characters and creepy costumes inspired by Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas .

Inspired by the characters of Jack Skellington, Sally, Dr. Finkelstein, Zero, Oogie Boogie, the Mayor, Sandy Claws, and more, these patterns feature a mix of dark and vibrant knits and glow-in-the-dark yarn in celebration of the melding of Halloween and Christmas in this classic film. Oogie Boogie and Zero stuffies come to life with the help of your knitting needles, and clothing, home décor, holiday decorations, and more will transport you to the moonlit hills, dark cemeteries, and eerie cobblestone streets of Tim Burton’s stop-motion world.

Featuring more than 25 wickedly creative knits pictured in stunning full-color photography, this book includes patterns suited for beginner and advanced knitters alike. Patterns for Sally’s slouchy socks and Sandy Claw’s Christmas stocking are ideal for new knitters, while more advanced projects like Sally’s patchwork dress will satisfy longtime crafters. Plus, this book includes original sketches, film stills, and other behind-the-scenes goodies that are sure to satisfy the most die-hard of Tim Burton fans.

Another very high quality book from Tanis and Titan, it can be used for Halloween or Christmas, or all year round if you’ve a mind to keep the spooky on display.

This is an American book so the yarns are US ones and some of the terminology like garter instead of stocking stitch are noticeable.

However, these are minor gripes as any good craft site can help you match the wool for a dupe and there are plenty of options to choose from from big stores such as LoveCrafts to help.

The book is divided into 4 parts- 1 for toys, one for costumes, one for clothing and 1 for household decor.

My favourite toy is probably Zero the dog, apart from Sally’s mittens, I doubt I would make anything else from the cosplay section , and Sally’s dress wrap in apparel along with her socks-they look super cool but also super challenging (see feature image!)

The apparel is where it is at, with adapted costumes and themed accessories such as the 2-faced mayor gloves, or his tailored cardigan. It’s when the design meets the heart of the animation that for me, the patterns leap out of the book and run, unchecked, around my head, that I will sit up and take notice.

My youngest is a huge Tim Burton fan and we argue about whether this is a Halloween or Christmas film and honestly, our default is to watch it Halloween thru to Christmas!

The themed decor is lush too, perfect for a child who loves the spooky imaginings of Halloweentown, which look so cosy, so original and so fun to make and to wear. I really want the themed throw and am hoping to cast on and make a Santy Claws and  a stocking or two before Christmas comes-I will let you know how I get on!

As you may have noticed from other posts, I love Tanis’ books and relish a chance to pick through it, look at the pictures, enjoy the luxury of the pages and cast on my first project. This will join all the other books Tanis has written for fandoms such as Harry Potter, Star Wars and Disney.
