About the book…

The pretty market town of Sterndale is a close-knit community where everyone thinks they know everyone else. But at a lavish summer wedding a local celebrity is discovered slumped in the gardens, the victim of a violent assault that leads to a murder investigation.

As the police search for answers, suspicion and paranoia build – and the lives of the locals are turned upside down. Secrets that lurk beneath the pristine façade of Sterndale come to light as detectives close in on the truth…

Huge thanks to Anne Cater of Random Things Tours for the blogtour invite and Headline for my gifted paperback review copy of ‘Innocent’ by Erin Kinsley , published on the 20th August, so go get it!

The pivotal assault which is the lynchpin of the book, takes place at what should have been the crowning event of the local social calendar,a wedding between two lovebirds attended by a popular tv presenter, his beautiful wife and adorable daughter.

The night turns upside down at the discovery of Tristan Hart’s unconscious form at the side of the swimming pool, victim of what appears to be a senseless attack.

But as the police pick apart the cosy veneer of Sterndale life, they find that the concepts of innocence, and guilt , are not as by the book as they would like it to be…

The suspense builds nicely as the life threatening injuries change into a murder investigation wherein all the introduced characters have something to hide.

Tristan’s wife -his second-is the envy of many of the townsmen whilst Tristan’s roaming eye has been targeted by as many wives.

Add in the circumstances around his first divorce and suddenly, the golden boy of investigative reporting becomes tarnished and crown-less.

The twisting turning plot is bolstered by some really lovely scene setting, the ‘whodunnit’ aspect of this story keeps you reading to the very end.It meanders to it’s conclusion via several well constructed characters, underpinned by a moral core of how far a person will go to maintain an appearance of innocence.
