In this post ,the blogging supremo which is Novel Lives has challenged people to find 5 books, with maps in,and show them off.

So in a feat of tech dexterity, between using my phone and my notebook, I can proudly bring to you, pictures of maps from 5 books-which I have read, am reading or am about to read.

As you can see above, this is a hand drawn map from one of my favourite piratical series, ‘The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists’ by Gideon Defoe

Each of the 5 books in the series so far, have these lovely end papers which are lovingly detailed representations of what the pirates thought *might* be on maps, and where they had the greatest adventures (see below for the map of ye olde London town in orange)

Next, we have a rather lovely map of Rutshire, the fictional place where Jilly Cooper sets her tales of that archetypal bad boy, Ruper Campbell-Black. This one is from her second novel set there, ‘‘Rivals’.

What I love about Jilly’s books is that each of them starts with a list of characters, including their horses and dogs ,as well as maps like this.

Next we have a map of The Cradle, from David Dalglish’s fantasy epic,‘Soulkeeper’. Published by Orbit books,this is the first in the ‘Keepers’ series about a land where a veil has lifted, allowing the monsters that were hidden, free reign.

Soulkeepers who heal and give comfort ,such as Devin Eveson ,are soon forced to betray their vows of peace in order to protect his fellow Soulkeepers and humans alike.

And here, from the opening pages of ‘Dragonslayer’ by Duncan M Hamilton, is the land of Mirabaya, where for the first time in a thousand years, a dragon awakens. Seeking revenge and hungry for human blood in vengeance for the death of his mate, he lays waste to the mages sent by Prince Bishop of Mirabaya. In order to bring down the dragon Prince Bishop has to hunt down a magical Chevalier, Guillot dal Villerauvais. But coming from a family which made a virtue of wiping out magic , will Guillot even listen to Prince Bishop? And just because he is from a magical family, can he kill a dragon?

This series opener has everything I could love and I am excited to read it!

Then we have this map, from 18th Century Cairo , courtesy of ‘The City Of Brass’ by S.A Chakraborty

Published in ebook, paperback and hardback, this is the tale of spirits, tricksters and djinn where the life of magic which others would venerate, becomes too much for protagonist Nahri. She would wish to leave, but what if her wish could one day come true?

The first in the Daevabad trilogy, this has everything in it, including maps!
