‘A Right Royal Face Off’ by Simon Edge
Published by Eye Books in paperback and ebook editions, this mix of 18th century portrait rivals, Gainsbrough and Sir Joshua Reynolds ,fakery and a possible historic find on one of those antique shows that seem to be permanently on, looks like it will tick all my boxes. Satire, celebrity, secrets and history in one glorious package!
‘This Mortal Boy’ by Fiona Kidman
Published by Gallic Books, this is an award winning fictional account of one of the last people hung in New Zealand. A moving exploration of the death penalty and the consequences of bringing it back, this looks at the nature of moral panics(this one was against teen behaviour) good versus evil and the hope of rehabilitation.Out now in paperback.
‘Wonderland’ Edited by Paul Kane and Marie O’Regan
Published in September by Titan Books, this is an Alice In Wonderland themed anthology with a fantastical ,horrific or historical bent-where will you go down this rabbit hole and what manner of beasts will you find there? With contributers ranging from Lilith Saintcrow to Rio Youers, one thing is for sure, it’s going to be an absolute blast!
