HELLO!

And welcome to the first reveal of the indie publishers who will be making up a year round indie book love in!

It is….

Drumroll….

The fabulous Eye/Lightning Books!

Here’s a quick intro to the publishers from Simon, webmaster, web site designer and graphic designer-

Eye Books was founded about 20 years ago, publishing non-fiction. Its main focus was ‘ordinary people doing extraordinary things’ – helping non-writers tell their stories, which were mainly travel-related, and often involved a spiritual or emotional journey too. Eye has lately broadened its remit: our best-selling title last year was a coffee-table book celebrating the 50th anniversary of Trojan Records.
Lightning Books is the more recent fiction arm. The company expanded and professionalised the team when it started publishing fiction in 2017, and we now tend to publish more Lightning titles than Eye ones. As well as publishing home-grown debut novelists, we specialise in UK versions of prize-winning fiction from Australia and New Zealand; even though we are a tiny outfit, we probably publish more such titles than any other UK publisher.”
Starting on the 1st August, I will be sharing reviews, interviews, behind the scenes talks with the people who write, design and make the books.
Their inspirations, their motivations and most importantly, what Independent publishing means to them.
*There is a 30% discount when using the code RACHELREADIT throughout August at the checkout on the website!*
So here’s where I need your help please. I would love it if you readers could please-
  • Sign up to the Eye/Lightning newsletter(link below)
  • Follow them on Twitter (link below)
  • Check out their books and buy them direct from the publisher/order them from your library
  • Listen to editor at large, Scott Pack‘s really eye opening podcast(link below) and follow him on Twitter too-he is a font of knowledge as an author, editor and independent books champion.
  • If you have Kindle Unlimited, there are several of their books on there-obviously the goal is to get people buying from the publisher or ordering from the library, but if you cannot afford books and have a Kindle membership, then check out some books there and please please leave a review. This is because reviews really matter.
  • Which brings me to…if you have read, are reading or about to read an Eye/Lightning book, please consider resharing your review on social media, retail sites, Goodreads etc ,tagging the publishers/ author/myself if you liked it, posting pics of your books on Twitter or Instagram, generally showing some book love for this indie.

As you can see, there are ways of joining in that suit every pocket, so please, if you only say ‘Hi!’ or sign up to their newsletter or have hundreds of pounds burning a hole in your pocket for book buying, are an indie bookshop looking for new titles to order, or anywhere on that spectrum, please please let’s get behind these small, specialised independent publishers.

Let’s find our new favourite authors, grow some readers, ditch a cup of coffee and buy a book.

Thank you so very much for reading this, let’s go read some books!
