About the book…

When the children grow up, the parents must die.

California gang leader Mary Lou has built a criminal empire while her adult children are desperate for their mother’s attention and love.

As her mental faculties wane, Alice and Frank Jr must acknowledge their mother is not the woman she once was and that they need to step up and take the helm, despite the stark differences between them.

But their sibling rivalry blinds both of them to their weaknesses which threatens the family when the Russian mob moves into the state. How can they fend off those attacks while fighting to decide who will lead the family now their dear Mama’s gone?

My thanks to Emma of Damp Pebbles for having me on my first blog tour for ‘Mama’s Gone’ by Leopold Borstinski.

This is the fourth in the Lagotti family stories but can totoally be read as a standalone novel of crime, corruption and twisted family values.

The Lagotti’s are bound by blood and honour yet their family ties only stretch so far in this thrilling and detailed insight to mob culture which is gritty, noirish and yet threaded through with a wry humour.

Twins Alice and Frank are devastated by the death of family matriach, Mary Lou and are determined to find out who was behind the hit. The book then goes back to the 1970’s and the 1990’s,looking into how she set up the family business of selling girls, heroin and blackmailing high rollers. As the book progresses, the list of suspects grows and grows….

The subplot of Mary Lou who begins to lose sense of herself, place and time is heartbreaking-her children have in a very real sense, lost her before her actual, physical, death.

Many thanks to Emma of ‘Damp Pebbles’ blogtours for introducing me to this wry and witty writer !
